Ensu Lifesciences review
The factory most Malaysian start-up and influencer brands already use — fast samples and a start-up-friendly process — but several of its own claims don’t match the official records.
Our verdict: 6.4 / 10
The factory most Malaysian start-up and influencer brands already use — fast samples and a start-up-friendly process — but several of its own claims don’t match the official records.
Best forInfluencer and start-up brands that want quick samples and a factory used to small first orders.
Strengths
- Built for start-ups: the widest client base in Malaysia, mostly small and new brands.
- Samples in 3–5 working days (company-stated) — among the fastest we found.
- Real R&D links: a verified technology licence with SIRIM.
- Strong recent growth and profitable every year from FY2020 to FY2024.
Weaknesses
- Four different founding dates across its own pages; the company was registered in 2016.
- “Kilang OEM No 1 Asia” and “30 international gold medals” could not be traced — we found one ITEX 2018 silver medal.
- Client products almost never carry the factory’s halal listing — you will likely need your own JAKIM application.
- Thin margins (about 4%) and high debt — ask about deposits and delivery guarantees.

Who Ensu is
Ensu Lifesciences is a family-owned skincare and cosmetics manufacturer in the Kota Puteri industrial estate at Batu Arang, north-west of Kuala Lumpur. The company was registered with SSM in February 2016 and is held by three siblings; their father, a formulator with a biotechnology background, is presented as the founder.
On the NPRA registry Ensu is named as manufacturer on 391 active products for about 160 brand owners — more brand owners than any other cosmetics factory in Malaysia. Most of those clients are very small: 88 of them have a single product with Ensu, and two thirds are sole proprietorships. That is exactly the profile of a factory that suits first-time founders.
What it is like to start a brand here
Ensu sells itself to start-ups and online sellers, and the registry backs that up. Its formula library covers moisturisers, sunscreens, serums, cleansers, lip colour and perfume. The company quotes samples in 3–5 working days, and it offers NPRA notification and halal paperwork as part of the package.
It does not publish an MOQ. Because most of its clients are small, first orders are usually modest, but you should ask for the MOQ per SKU and per packaging type, since custom bottles often carry their own minimums.
Growth and financial health
Ensu’s filed accounts show fast growth: revenue went from RM 9.5 m in FY2020 to RM 38.0 m in FY2024, with an 87% jump in the last year. It was profitable and paid dividends every year in that period.
The other side is a thin balance sheet. Margins run at about 4%, debt is around five times equity, and short-term liabilities were nearly double short-term assets at the end of FY2024, after a large plant expansion financed by four banks. None of this is unusual for a fast-growing family factory, but it is a reason to keep deposits small and tie payments to delivery milestones.
Certifications we checked
- NPRA GMP — verified. The No. 47 plant is on NPRA’s list of GMP-compliant cosmetic manufacturers.
- JAKIM halal — verified, with a catch. The factory certificate is real, but the 14 halal cosmetics listed under it are all Ensu’s own ENSUTOUCH brand. We checked 40 client brands in the JAKIM portal: 37 had no halal products at all, and the three that did used their own certificates. If halal is part of your positioning, budget for your own JAKIM application.
- SIRIM licence — verified. Ensu signed a technology licensing agreement with SIRIM Berhad in February 2025.
- ISO 9001 — not held yet. It appears on one website, but the company’s own LinkedIn page says certification is still in progress.
Claims that don’t match the records
| Claim on Ensu’s own channels | What we found |
|---|---|
| Founded 1998 / since 2010 / founded 2015 / 20+ years | Company registered with SSM on 17 Feb 2016 |
| “Kilang OEM No 1 Asia” | No awarding body named |
| 30 international gold medals | One silver medal at ITEX 2018 |
| ISO 9001 certified | Certification still in progress (company LinkedIn) |
| Monthly sales of RM 2 m+ in 2020 (press interview) | FY2020 revenue filed at RM 9.5 m for the full year |
The most generous reading is that the longer dates describe the founder’s personal experience. Even so, the gaps cost Ensu points on transparency.
What clients say
The main Google listing has 4.6 stars from 56 reviews, mostly positive about friendliness and speed. One review describes a salesperson going silent after a RM 400 deposit; it is a single report, but another reason to pay against milestones.
Our verdict
Ensu is where a large share of Malaysia’s new skincare brands are being made right now, and its speed and start-up focus are real. Go in with clear written terms: MOQ per SKU, sample and production dates, who owns the formula, and — if you need it — a plan for your own halal certification.
